Illustration Friday: Instinct

It's Gail's instinct to stop in front of every shoe shop, and gaze...

... even when it wasn't exactly the right style...

OK, here I tried to create a more minimalistic style, but obviously, I failed. I feel like I always have too much details for it to be a clean, simple drawing, but then not enough detail to be a really nice, elaborate work. Any suggestions on how to work toward clean and simple would be appreciated!

I really like the concept here. My thought--as to your question--is that what's happening in this picture is that the figure is getting lost in the busy-ness of the storefront, that somehow the two things--the figure and the rest--can't be identical, that either one should be busy and the other not, or that, if they both are, that they be visually different in some way so that they don't just blend together. Maybe the difference could be in terms of color, heaviness of line, tone, but SOMETHING.
